Dear Mr. Yunnus,My name is Angel Rodriguez Arnal and I am a Spanish artist. I have an idea that could help to put world hunger to an end and it would be lovely to have your assistance.I am 30 years old. I spent my childhood studying in Morocco. There I got to know and lived toghether with the people in need. I became aware of the differences between their world and mine. I could understand how little they have and how much they are worth… How big-hearted a person can be.When I got back to Spain I plunged myself into my creative work and art. Photography and painting are my means of expression and I spent many years shut away in my studio creating nonstop in a constant state of passion. One day; more than a year ago, by chance I happened to see a documentary about you and your work on Spanish TV. This changed my life and my objectives. Immediately I immersed myself in your webpage and I started to understand what you do and how you do it… Then the idea emerged gradually, the conviction that also I could change things; help to eradicate world hunger.I made an artproject, based in two of your statements, which I presented to various art contests and international art grants. I got rejected in all of them. I could not belive how egoistic and obtuse the persons can be that judge the projects… I was presenting them a project that was going to change the world and they returned it saying “that they did not know how to classify or judge it”. I asked myself how can I carry out this project, which is so needed and urgent to the world, how can I make it happen. Then again I came to think of you and your organisation. So I would like to turn to you and tell you what my project is about and what it is based on, and hopefully you will realize the magnitude of it and we can collaborate. I am at your entire disposal. The project “Life number”, that is how I call it, springs from two of your terrible and truthful statements:“the money spent in one sole war, like the one in Iraq, could have put an end to world hunger”“and with the investments made in the useless accumulation of nuclear warheads we could already have put an end to poverty”From these two statements of yours emerges that you are able to put a concrete figure on the table. An exact amount with which to eradicate world hunger. The fact that there is a concrete sum means that it is no longer a abstract illusion to completely end world hunger, and to make the world a more just and equal place for all of us. This concrete figure has to be made known, it has to be transmitted, because it would indicate the goal to the people and corporations of the world, the real objective. That exact figure is what I need to complete my project and to put it to your entire disposal.I have the following idea:Paint 100 paintings in which that concrete number that you know of or that you approximately can calculate would be the leitmotiv in all of them; 100 paintings with a number as the main feature. That concrete number would be divided in 100, the number of paintings, and the result would be the price of each piece, each painting. In this way selling the 100 paintings would put an end to world hunger. The entire benefit from the sales is granted to go to your organisation, so you can administrate and distribute it in the best way. The aim is to make this art collection a significant item so that the big corporations, mecenas and multimillionares of the world will buy these really special pieces. To acquire a painting from the “Life number” project would mean that they also took part in the project that changed the world. They would own a painting that created the needed and definitive change towards a better world. Do you think that there are not 100 persons or corporations that would be capable of paying such an amount for the good of humanity at the same time as they would benefit from the prestige of such an act? There are much more than 100, you know it as well as I do.This is essentially what I wanted to tell you Mr. Yunnus. I would be truly thankful for your help and collaboration. I have thousands and thousands of photos and paintings at your entire disposal, as well as my time and talent. If you are interested I can send you photos of the project “Life number”, what the paintings would look like. It would be an honor and a pleasure to work with you.I also have ideas on how Grameen bank and Grameen check would be able to profit more from their products. Ideas that I would like to share with you. If you are interested to collaborate with me in the “Life number” project I would love to paint those 100 paintings in Bangladesh. In that way I also could get to know you and the people there, and see your organization up-close.I would like to thank you for your time and dedication. I hope you will get in contact with me soon because the world really needs it and hopefully we can do great things toghether. Thank you again and I am looking forward hearing from you soon.Sincerely yours,Angel Rodriguez Arnal
